There are different opinions about President Charles de Gaulle of France. But there can be little argument that right now the airport named after him has turned itself into a premiership class rotten airport. The present design involves huge distances for travellers, impenetrable signage, unhelpful staff, lousy acoustics. Chennai was a place of peaceful efficiency in comparison. Is there or should there be a good airports guide so that people can plan their trips around avoiding particular black spots such as LAX, Lagos, and now league leader Paris. Incidentally, the PC in the lounge has only some of the keyboard working and no way of linking to another site - so please forgive lack of hypers and any spelling mistakes.

No outlets or wi-fi for laptops?

Pray for the day when de Gaulle joins the ranks of first world airports.

At times this blog reads like a skit from 'Private Eye' : loosen up man !

Company executives complaining about inter-continental air travel is boring and totally removed from the world in which many book buyers earn their living.

Isn't your reproof a little harsh, Clive? Surely it's worse to have a bad trip on a first class ticket than if one is travelling economy?

I'm an economy traveller but have occasionally been upgraded to "executive" or First. It has never seemed worth the massive extra cost.

How right Freya Stark was in saying, of travel, that when everybody did it, it wouldn't be worth doing. I was lucky enough to fly from the UK to S E Asia in the Fifties. Took forever, by today's standards, but what a glamorous adventure it was. Unforgettable!

Clive, I have a true story for you.

A very long time ago, when I was in 6th grade (American) we had our end of the year school assembly. Everybody in the school was there in the auditorium. My class in the back. Another 6th grade class up front, right behind a class of 2nd graders.

Who, the 2nd graders, were in fine form; restless, bored, and looking for something to get into. One of the 6th graders behind them (a lass by the name of, Beverly) would bring this misbehavior to the attention of one of the teachers. Who in turn would make a valiant effort to quiet the miscreant child. This went on until the assembly actually started.

We went through the business of a 1966 American elementary school assembly, then came the call for people to explain why school assemblies are a good thing.

The usual remarks were made. About learning good citizenship and stuff like that. Until they came to one of my class mates, a boy by the name of, Nathan.

Nathan stood up, and speaking very clearly said, "I think we should have school assemblies, because it gives Beverly the opportunity to bitch."

He got a 5 minute standing ovation.

Mr. Keeble, I say we let Richard say what he wishes to on his blog, because it gives him the opportunity to bitch.

How I agree with you !

CDG is one of the worst airports in terms of organization if you have a transfer. Distances between terminals are true marathons, information on how to get from one point to another are practically non existant and airline companies are the last to know where is what on location!!!

I don't like to bicker but CDG just gets me so upset !
